Changing keys after a move
Keep the lock or replace the hardware?
If the existing locks are in good condition and compatible with your needs, rekeying can change which key opens them while keeping the hardware. Replacement is worth discussing when a lock is damaged, unreliable, or unsuitable for the door. The condition of the lock matters more than whether you still have the old key.
Plan the whole home before changing one lock
Count the exterior doors, including a garage entry or side door if it has a separate lock. Mention whether you want compatible locks to share a key. Different keyways or hardware types may limit that option, so photos of the locks can help clarify the scope before a visit.
A useful first call
Tell us whether you have access to the property, how many locks need attention, and whether a working key is available. For a vehicle instead, provide the year, make, and model. We will discuss the available service path and estimate rather than assuming every request needs replacement hardware.
