Understanding a sticking or unreliable lock
Describe when the problem happens
Tell us whether the lock works with the door open but fails when the door is closed. That distinction can help separate a door or strike-alignment issue from a problem inside the lock. Do not force a key that is bending or a mechanism that is binding.
Repair and replacement solve different problems
Loose components, wear, latch issues, and damaged lock hardware can produce similar symptoms. The appropriate next step depends on the condition of the door and lock. Describe the symptoms first rather than buying replacement hardware before its fit has been checked.
Changing access is a separate decision
If the lock operates correctly but an old key should no longer open it, ask about rekeying. If both access and hardware reliability are concerns, explain both during the call. For a vehicle key or lockout, provide the vehicle details so that request can be assessed separately.
